Ride the Bus!

If you are wondering how you can take action to reduce your carbon footprint, look no further. In August, 2023, Iowa City launched a pilot program to study the effects of free, safe, and convenient bus transportation in the community. Since the program was launched, transit rides have increased by 45%, compared to the same 8-month period from the year before. This increase in ridership translates to a 250 metric ton reduction in CO2 emissions. This is on top of new electric buses that Iowa City has added to its fleet.

To take advantage of free public transit in Iowa City, download the free transit app on your phone. Bus route schedules can be found in all buses, City Hall, the Public Library, and IMU Campus Information Center.
