Solar by Brandt: Brandt Heating and Air Conditioning, a long-standing fixture in Iowa City, recently began offering the full range of solar energy services in Johnson, Washington, and Linn Counties. Tim Dwight and Teri Wombacher VanDyke are overseeing the company’s first projects, ranging from residential and commercial PV installations to larger ground-mounted systems at Farmers Electric Cooperative and an I-80 truck stop. Brandt’s track record for high-quality products and service make them an important addition to the area’s solar economy. Contacts: 319-338-3637/ www.brandtheating.com
Farmers Electric Coop solar expansion: Frytown’s FEC has been a pioneer in the solar energy field for many years and continues to be among top ten utilities in the nation in percentage of green power sales. This spring, the Coop is building a new solar farm along Hwy 1, adding to its existing 1.75 MW solar farm and community solar garden (with 125 subscribers). When the new solar farm is operational, it will increase FEC’s total annual kWh sales from solar to 23%! Adding to that: 42 of the Coop’s 650 members have purchased their own PV panels. This multi-faceted approach to distributed solar generation is an important model forJohnson County communities. To learn more: http://www.feckalona.net/

Group purchase means that a discount will be given to all participants if minimum thresholds( 50 and 100 kW) of solar is purchased by July 2024. Interested? Solar Energy Task Force: Greater Iowa City, Inc. and Better Together 2030 are pulling together public and private stakeholders in the solar energy field to discuss ways to expand distributed solar in Johnson County. The group will meet monthly to identify projects with significant public support. Stay tuned as things get rolling.
