Home energy assessments and coaching services help homeowners make sound energy investments. JCED assessments cover both the exterior and interior of a home, including its insulation, air leaks, windows and doors, major appliances and mechanical systems.
JCED contracts with Craig and Eric Streed to conduct home energy assessments and coaching services. The Streeds are certified by the American Society of Home Inspectors and have 40+ years of experience in Johnson County. This experience has made the Streeds expert in technical aspects of home energy use, and exceptionally skilled in communicating their findings and recommendations to homeowners.

Two Levels of Assessment
Basic Home Energy Assessment
A basic assessment includes a walk-through of the exterior and interior of a home with the homeowner/renter, discussion of concerns and priorities, and assessment of the home’s building envelop (walls, attic, basement, windows, and doors) and major appliances and mechanical systems (heating and cooling, water heating, kitchen, laundry). Following the visit, homeowner receives a short, written report summarizing findings, priority issues, and possible repairs or upgrades. Our sliding scale is:
- Price: $100
- Price: free if annual pretax household income below is $110,000
Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment
A comprehensive assessment includes all services in Basic Assessment plus additional diagnostic testing of energy performance and blower door testing to identify and evaluate air leakage within the home. Following visit, client receives a detailed written report on:
- priority and optional upgrades and improvements, including cost ranges, payback periods, financial incentives
- information on local contractors and other resources
- photographs documenting findings
Our sliding scale for a comprehensive home assessment is:
- Price: $350
- Price: free if annual pretax household income below $110,000
Energy Coaching and Consulting
JCED also offers energy coaching / consulting services for:
- Do-it-yourself energy improvement projects
- Evaluating contractor proposals
- Planning energy efficiency upgrades
These services are available following an energy assessment or independently upon request. Consulting services are billed at $30 per hour.
