Want to learn quickly if your house is wasting energy? Cut utility bills long term? JCED’s new home energy self-assessment checklist will help you figure out where the losses are and where upgrades are needed.
Two Northside neighbors, Barbara and Linda, teamed up to use the self-assessment checklist in their homes. Partnering has obvious benefits: two sets of eyes and two brains to identify shortcomings and imagine solutions.
The women walked through each house together, collecting information on insulation, air leaks, and appliances, and noting their findings on the checklist. They then created a “what to improve” list that they’ll either do themselves or invest in down the road.
To download a free copy of the checklist, go to JCED’s webpage “Steps to Saving Money on Energy” and scroll to DIY Option 1A (a brochure) and Option 1B (detailed checklist).
