The Johnson Clean Energy District (JCED) hosted the second annual Energy District Tour on Thursday, December 9th. Energy District Tours showcase clean energy success stories throughout Johnson County, Iowa. The tour was limited to invitation only and was held virtually.
The tour consisted of three tour stops. City of Iowa City Climate Action Analyst, Daniel Bissell, spoke about the city’s new electric buses and private vehicle charging in Iowa City, and its associated greenhouse gas emission reductions. Roger Eggenburg, a North Liberty resident, spoke about his experience and cost-savings of his new residential solar array provided through the Johnson County Solarize group-buy in 2020. Deb Schoelerman, a Green Sanctuary Team Member at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Coralville, spoke about the new green building at the church and gave advice for other faith communities that are looking to go green.
“The hope of JCED when hosting these events is to gather local leaders together to learn about, discuss, and celebrate clean energy successes in our area,” says Ann Guhin, Program Manager for the organization. “We look to create a dialog between leaders across municipalities and organizations to help generate solutions to expedite our shared goal of the clean energy transition in Johnson County.”
A variety of community leaders and local elected officials attended the event. Tour attendance was limited to facilitate a productive discussion with local leaders and JCED, and identify ways the energy district can directly assist communities.
