Welcome to summer — may the good times roll! Just in time, here’s the summer edition of Good Energy, your seasonal tip sheet on being comfortable and saving money on energy bills when the dog days arrive. Iowa gets hot and humid, and this year – with El Niño sauntering in on top of a warming climate overall – everyone needs to be smart about keeping cool without overtaxing the grid and busting their budgets.
“Good practices” to keep your house cool can be found here. This summer we’re focusing on promising new technology – mini-splits – that can run on clean electricity and are extremely energy efficient. Paying for this and other energy upgrades is covered in the next article. We wrap up with a description of “heat islands,” unshaded expanses of concrete that make summers so much hotter. In the good news section at the end, find links to splash pads and public pools in Johnson County.
Good Energy is a free publication of the Johnson Clean Energy District, delivered to community newsletters around the county. For your own free subscription, sign up here.
